eOS 4.0 is here next to a device with new launcher design

Digital freedom without effort – meet /e/OS 4.0, the new version of the deGoogled operating system by Murena and our updated Murena Workspace

When Gaël Duval launched /e/OS in 2018, he had a clear vision in mind: make privacy accessible to everyone, not just those with advanced technical knowledge.

Since then he has built a dedicated team at Murena that has continuously developed and refined the operating system. Today, it does not only protect your data and educates users about privacy but is also mature enough to integrate seamlessly into the daily life of the “average smartphone user” – no matter how unique each individual may be.

From students to seniors, including business owners and parents, /e/OS adapts to a wide variety of use cases.

Building on this foundation, we also offer the Murena Workspace, which includes online cloud storage on European servers, email, and online office – increasing your digital autonomy. Its new version adds even more features, but more on that a little later…

Now let’s discover what’s new in /e/OS 4.0 – from a fresh design and OS updates to exciting new Murena Workspace features.

Discover the new features in the replay of our live stream

If you missed our live launch and prefer to watch the replay instead of reading this article you can do so now on Peertube or YouTube.

Choose your favorite design from a new wallpaper collection

The Blisslauncher – this is what we call the launcher of /e/OS running Murena phones – has a new design

To personalize your wallpapers, you can choose from a dozen of vibrant colors or upload your own photo.

And two apps have seen their icon change!

Gmail Migration – It’s never been easier to leave Google for good

Switching email providers can be long and difficult, if you have to download and store all your files in the first place.

With our updated migration assistant, you can now effortlessly move all your data stored with Google to Murena Workspace.

Import your contacts, calendars, and Google Drive data, and now, your Gmail too.

To not miss any emails, you can set up automatic email forwarding to your new Murena address, and even let an automatic reply inform your contacts of the change. With 4.0, there’re no more excuses to NOT deGoogle.

Murena Workspace evolves – Discover Murena Sign, your new e-signature solution

Online signatures are commonplace these days, which is why we were determined to integrate them into our online suite.

At the same time as /e/OS 4.0, we’re introducing Murena Sign, our new electronic signature solution. It supports PDFs, Word, and ODT files and is fully compliant with eIDAS regulations. Simple electronic signatures are free for all users, while advanced and qualified signatures are included in our Premium plan. They are legally binding and privately hosted.

Still worried about your privacy? Rest assured: no third-parties are involved.

Secure your meetings from eavesdropping with Murena Meet

If you prefer a European solution that respects your privacy for your online meetings, you should try Murena Meet

It’s now integrated natively into your Murena Workspace account and allows you to schedule meetings, share your screen and collaborate in real time – guaranteed free from prying ears – as these video calls come with end-to-end encryption

At the same time, Murena Meet offers everything you’ve come to expect from your current providers – you can test your equipment before important calls, customize or blur your background, and add meeting links directly to your Murena calendar with a single click.

The Murena GS6: A device that combines it all: sustainability, design, and affordability

We know you value repairability, but also a great design.

Yet you’ve also asked for a more affordable device. With the new Murena GS6 and Murena GS6 PRO, we prove that when we say that privacy should be for everybody, we really mean it.

This device combines performance, privacy and sustainability. It supports fast wired and wireless charging, while smart battery management helps extend its lifespan.

Premium features like eSIM, IP68 protection, Bluetooth 5.4, and an elegant glass-back design combine style, durability, and freedom.

More to come in /e/OS 4.1

Our team is currently finalizing a couple of other features that will soon be integrated into /e/OS. A key step in this process is the introduction of Murena Backup. This feature will allow you to optionally back up all your files and to restore them even if your phone breaks, gets lost, or is stolen.

We will also provide an /e/OS version of Passwords, which you might already use as the existing browser version in Murena Workspace. Thanks to the app, you’ll be able to easily access all your passwords on your device. Autofill on login forms, strong password generation at the moment of account creation, and proactive monitoring – if any of your passwords show up in a known data breach, you’ll know immediately!

Another app you’ve been waiting for is Murena Maps. Although it’s not yet integrated into /e/OS 4.0, beta testing is open and we will soon share more information on how to participate.

Ready for /e/OS 4.0? Let us know what you think about our new features and updates in the comments!

  • a modern Drakconf with modern config tools as snapin and independet from WM’s and tha’ts would be the best adversiting if there be also included Handytools like a handy and smart smartphone flash plugin, an handy smartphone Backup tool and other of somehting tools, on one hand a fully Linux Configurator and inside also tools for flashing, updating and backupping the own /e/ Smartphone with murena , this could be a super advertising if comes a Draconf again to the Linuxcommunity (and no more for one Distribution but for everyone Distribution) and therewith a supporting for the Handys in sence of /e/. • Any changes to allow proper banking app support?

Without this /e/ will remain unusable as a daily driver for many.

        • Hello Ovens, have you bought your device from us or flashed it yourself? What’s your latest update? According to our tests, Wero should work on official devices.

    • I’ve tried 5 different banking apps, all have worked perfectly. All Norwegian banks seem to work just fine with no issues along with the national bankID app. If yours doesn’t work it’s most likely your bank not supporting murena os, not the other way around.

    • Hello Robert, Unfortunately, no! We are not currently working on offering Android Auto without Google. At this time, Android Auto can only be used with Google apps, which we do not recommend. We hope to find a solution in the future.

    • Hello Dave, the team has explored this area, but so far there is no supported solution, and results have not been successful.
At the moment, we are unable to enable or improve RCS functionality, and its future availability remains uncertain.
