About Murena
Murena SAS builds privacy-respecting mobile and cloud products: /e/OS, a de-Googled Android OS, and Murena Workspace, a cloud suite based on Nextcloud. We are a fully remote, multicultural team and most of our work is open source.
About this role
You will join our infrastructure team to help the platform behind Murena Workspace and our /e/OS services keep growing and evolving. It runs on a proven stack: Ansible for automation, a mail stack based on Postfix and Dovecot, and Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring. We are now taking the next step towards infrastructure as code, starting with the deployment of SaltStack, and we are looking for an experienced engineer to help us do it: someone with strong system administration foundations who enjoys improving a running platform progressively, together with the team, while keeping it reliable and protected against abusive use of our services.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain our production Linux servers and services, including our mail stack (Postfix, Dovecot)
- Plan and carry out the migration of our infrastructure to infrastructure as code, service by service and with minimal downtime
- Deploy SaltStack across our infrastructure
- Write and maintain infrastructure code (Ansible, SaltStack) in GitLab, with code review and CI/CD
- Define the target stack and the practices that go with it
- Monitor services with Prometheus and Grafana, manage backups, apply security updates and handle incidents
- Protect our services against abuse (spam, brute force, fraudulent accounts, excessive resource usage): detect it, limit it and respond to it
- Document what you build and share it with the team
Requirements
- 7+ years of system administration or infrastructure experience in production Linux environments
- Solid fundamentals: networking, DNS, TLS, storage, web servers, databases
- Hands-on experience with configuration management and infrastructure as code: Ansible and/or SaltStack
- Experience administering Linux mail servers (Postfix, Dovecot)
- Experience with Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI preferred)
- Experience with monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana), backups and security hardening
- Experience protecting public services against abuse (for example rate limiting, spam and brute-force protection)
- Ability to migrate existing infrastructure progressively, without breaking what works
- Fluent English, written and spoken (mandatory)
- Experience working in a remote team
Nice to have
- Experience with Terraform / OpenTofu
- Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience hosting and scaling Nextcloud or similar PHP applications
- Experience with identity / SSO services
- Contributions to open-source projects
Team
You will join the sysadmin / infrastructure squad and work with the web developers and the product owners of Murena Workspace. We work remotely and asynchronously.
What we offer
- Full-time remote for candidates based in France, flexible hours
- Work on open-source software used by tens of thousands of active users
- A role with real influence on the future architecture of our infrastructure
Hiring process
Three conversations, then an offer, with no long wait in between:
- Getting to know each other (HR). If your profile looks like a good match, we invite you to a first chat within a week of your application.
- Meeting the technical team. If it goes well, you talk with the people you would work with, the week after.
- Meeting our CEO. If you are selected, a final conversation with our CEO.
- Making you an offer. If everyone is aligned, we send you an offer.
We aim to complete all interviews by mid-November 2026 and to be able to make an offer by the end of November. This may vary depending on the number of applications we receive.
