HIROH, powered by Murena at MWC: What the tech press really thinks about the privacy-first smartphone

The HIROH, powered by Murena, is our brand new smartphone – currently in final development and available for pre-order.

With our operating system /e/OS at the software level and two hardware-based kill switches, you can be more confident than ever that your data truly belongs to you.

We went to MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona with the HIROH team to present this brand-new device. This was a great opportunity to make new connections, showcase what we promised, and – last but not least – have a good time.

Because when you know that your product works just as expected, it’s easy to stand at your booth with a smile.

As we can’t wait to get your HIROH devices into your hands, we’re happy to share some great media moments in different languages with you.

Booth 6H20 at MWC was the place to be to discuss the brand new HIROH in a relaxed atmosphere.

What do trusted French tech magazines think about the HIROH phone?

At MWC 2026, Les Numériques confirmed the HIROH phone’s hardware standout feature: its kill switches. As Julien Vercoutère noted,

“Une fois sur off, aucune app ne peut les rallumer en douce.”

(Once they’re turned off, no app can secretly turn them back on)

Gabriel Manceau from 01Net described the HIROH as…

… le smartphone “deGooglisé” qui protège vraiment votre vie privée.”

(… the “Google-free” smartphone that truly protects your privacy), highlighting its radical departure from tracking-heavy devices and its potential to redefine user control over personal data.

The HIROH among MWC highlights on various websites

Different websites and bloggers mentioned the HIROH with /e/OS among the highlights of the event, for example Alex Hernandez from Techaeris:

“Unlike conventional smartphones that rely solely on software permissions, HIROH physically disconnects sensitive components at the circuit level.”

And as Kecskés István, Goatmobile says:

“Fizikai kill switch: itt a „kikapcsolva” valóban kikapcsolva“

(Physical kill switch: here, “off” really means off.)

He describes well how we put our promise of data privacy into action with /e/OS:

“Az alkalmazások egy saját App Lounge felületen keresztül érhetők el, és a cél az, hogy a felhasználó csökkentse a digitális lábnyomát anélkül, hogy teljesen le kellene mondania az Android-kompatibilitásról.”

(The apps are accessible through a dedicated App Lounge interface, and the goal is for users to reduce their digital footprint without having to completely give up Android compatibility.)
